What is homestay?

Homestay accommodation is when students stay in an Australian family's home, living as a 'member' of the family. Homestay families provide students with meals and involve them in family activities, and students are expected to clean up after themselves just as they would at home. This type of accommodation is organized by the Cairns College of English. It is an excellent choice for students wanting to get additional practice speaking English, and for those who may wish to learn more about Australian culture.

How much does it cost?

Accommodation Placement Fee $200  
Single Homestay Under 18 $250/wk $36/extra night
Single Homestay Over 18 $200/wk $29/extra night
Twin Homestay Over 18 $180 /wk $26/extra night

All rates are per person.

Other Forms of Accommodation

Other housing options available to students include hostels (inexpensive hotel accommodation with some shared facilities) and sharehouses (shared houses or flats).  Cairns College of English does not place students into these types of accommodation, but we are glad to assist students and answer any questions.
